In case of death of a pensioner, what actions should be initiated by the widow/family?
In case of death of a retired army officer what all actions are required to be completed? How can widow get the pension asap? How to make succession certificate etc ? What about weapons certificates? Disposal of DHA plots etc etc
Sequence of Actions 1. Get a death certificate from the hospital and subsequently from NADRA. 2. Based on the death certificate, apply for a succession certificate from the local court. 3. Get a letter of administration that is to manage and operate the Bank accounts of the deceased. You will have to give it in the local news paper that so and so ..is dead and that the undermentioned are his legal heirs.Name all. Once this is done also apply to the CORO for family pension. Also detail a procedure savvy officer to help out the distressed family. Some aspects are as under
1. Immediately send copy of Death Cert issued by Hosp to CORO. 2. CORO promptly sends a set of documents to be completed. 3. Apply for NADRA Death Certificate which is issued based on Hosp Death Cert. Subsequently for all documentation NADRA’s Death Cert is reqd 4. Ensure CNIC is valid at all times 5. Photographs-widow 6. Hosp ID card – widow is valid at all times 7. Offr’s ID Card, Pension Book, Hosp Card be kept at a place which is known to all. These are to be returned. 8. Widow must have a single bank account in her own name. Joint accts are not applicable. So open your wife’s account immediately now. 9. Bank Cert to be obtained from offr’s banker certifying the date / month for which last last Pension received / drawn. 10. After going through this exercise it was found that CORO, PPA and CMAO cooperative,are helpful,and give prompt guidance and do expedite. Some families did face problem because of incomplete / delayed submission of documents.
Pension to Widow The pension book of deceased officer along with his CNIC and spouse CNIC be submitted to CORO along with an application from widow. After the scrutiny the papers are sent to CMA(O)…, where pension will be adjusted for widow.. this pension will be on a reduced scale, and not the one which the deceased offr was drawing… It is now 75% of the pension the officer was drawing.
DHA Plots Succession certificate has to be obtained from the Court (In the court if someone wants to surrender his/ her share, it should be convyed to the court by the person who is surrendering ). Thereafter, all incl the one who has surrendered will go to DHA office and submit court’s Decision along with an application for issuance of Transfer ltr. Here all will sign + thumb impressions and shall be photographed. Now after 15 days or later, at your convenience the person on whose names it is transferred, he/she can collect the plot trasfer ltr. There is however one catch point and that is that all next of kin first have to become member of the concerned DHA (only those who want the plot to be transferred to their name) We are really blessed to be part of the armed forces and are proud of the fact that the families are promptly looked after. Write your will and keep it at a place known to all concerned. 2. Normally at such an occasion difficulty arises for the next of kin as to how to meanwhile run the house. So keeping that in view, write the details of all your accounts on a piece of paper and keep it alongside the will. It is always advisable to keep all accounts as joint accounts with your wife with the instructions of to be operated jointly and singularly As the pension account can’t be joint account, so place blank cheques, duly signed, without filling the amount, alongside your will. This will provide immediate relief to the distressed family. Please note that banks do allow one transaction from the deceased officer’s acct even after the date of death. All weapon licenses should have the name of a person of the family as Retainer entered on to it. That will help change of name of license holder from holder to retainer easily.
